Teaching math with money.
When I originally started creating and selling on TeachersPayTeachers, I was touching on topics you’ve certainly heard of before. Math anxiety. Student confidence. Teacher productivity. I love all of those things, so it was a natural fit.
But what personally helped me become a better teacher of math? To the point where I actually enjoyed it? Was when I started using money as a math manipulative. Place value, decimals, even simple fractions became easier.
Something else amazing happened, too. Students started to realize that, by mastering math, they could bring their families out of generational poverty (especially prevalent on the reservation where I was living and teaching). So now? It’s become a mission of mine: to help teachers support students as they master math and money.
